Charity of the Year
Currently our Charity of the Year is Dorothy House and our partnership with them finishes in June this year.

We will choose our next Charity of the Year for 2014/2015 from the entries into our Charity Awards programme 2014.  We will then support this Charity with any fundraising that we do for a year until June 2015.

Dick Jenkins and Jen Green from Dorothy House launch our Charity of the Year 2013 & 2014 in our Wood Street branch.

Playing our part in the Community
Bath Building Society works with many local charities, schools, community groups and organisations every year. If you would like to make a suggestion as to how we can support our community, or if you are part of an organisation that would like to apply for our assistance then please contact us on 01225 423271.

How we help our Community
The Bath Building Society Annual Charity Awards – The 2013 Award winners were announced on 9 July 2013. Zenith Youth Theatre received the top donation of £1,500 and Chris Jones the Chair of the Zenith Youth Theatre Group, said:

“Winning £1,500 in our golden anniversary year marks a significant milestone for Zenith Youth Theatre Company. The money given to us by Bath Building Society will go towards sound and lighting equipment at our rehearsal venue, St Marks Community Centre in Widcombe. The equipment will be available to other users of the centre and will enable groups to stage mini plays, dance and professional presentations with quality sound and lighting. The installation is scheduled for August and will benefit all members of the local community for many years to come”. The Zenith Youth Theatre Group is a theatrical society run entirely by volunteers and has a ‘no audition to join’ policy for all young people aged between 13 and 21 who demonstrate an enthusiasm and commitment to the group’s aim of musical theatre to the highest standard. Anyone within the age range can be actively involved in any aspect of theatre production and presentation.

The Awards were launched in 2006 and offer a range of donations from tickets for a flight in our hot air balloon which can be raffled, to cash donations of between £500 and £1,500. In 2013 the Applications were considered by a panel of Judges including the Mayor (Malcolm Lees), Lynne Fernquest from The Bath Chronicle, Imogen sellers from the BBC and Dick Jenkins and Tiffany Hardie-Evans from the Society.

The 2014 Charity Awards are open for entries
We aim to support as many initiatives as possible, but funds do not allow us to financially support every organisation that approaches us. As the profile of our community support has grown, so has the number of letters that we receive requesting assistance.  The Society launched the Building Bath Society Charity Awards programme in 2006, whereby clear guidance and an established process were laid out to deal with general applications.

Bath Building Society’s initiative offers a number of cash grants of £1,500 (one), £1,000 (three) and £500 (four), plus hot air balloon tickets (three pairs) that you can use to raise more funds.

This year we also have a new category to add to our Programme which is Bath Building Society Charity of the Year.  The Charity that wins this category will become our Charity of the Year from July 2014 until July 2015.  If we are fundraising throughout the year, all funds will go to this Charity.

Please find the Application form here and more information about the Charity Awards here.

If you would like to enter you can post the Application Form back to me at 15 Queen Square, Bath BA1 2HN or you can email me at tiffany@bibs.co.uk and ask for a PDF of the form to print off or a Word version to complete online.

Collections Through The Branches – the Society has offered to host collection boxes through its branches in the past, and some of the charities that we have helped include Bridgecare and MacMillan. This year we are supporting Dorothy House.

Donations From Our AGM – every year the Society makes a 50p donation for each feedback form returned by our members. We were delighted to present Dorothy House Hospice Care with a cheque for £878 in April this year.

Charity Of The Year – each year, staff members from the Society are asked to vote for local causes they would like to support. The cause with the most votes is then designated as the Bath Building Society Charity of the Year, and is the focus for the fundraising efforts of our staff members. Until 2015 we will be supporting Dorothy House.

Local Events We Support
The Firework Poster Competition and Firework Display – in conjunction with Rotary Club in Bath, Bath Building Society has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds over the 37 years that we have been the main sponsor of the Fireworks event. The event is on Saturday 2 November 2013.

We also run the Firework Poster Competition in primary schools and most people who have attended a primary school in Bath will have taken part in our Firework Safety Poster Competition.

Brain Of Bath – raising funds for local charity Julian House, which supports homeless people in Bath, the Brain of Bath is an annual quiz night for which the Society is delighted to be the main sponsor.

Balloon Flights – the Society sponsors a hot air balloon which enables us to give away a number of tickets each year to good causes in and around Bath for fund raising purposes. The flying season runs approximately from April to September so we strongly encourage requests for tickets to be with us early in the year.
